Last week we went on holiday to Wales.
This is becoming a habit: we went twice last year.
We decided that, as we had enjoyed ourselves so much last September, we would go back to stay once again at Glan Leri, the holiday cottage in Talybont near Aberystwyth. I waxed lyrical about Glan Leri here.
Last year the weather was superb. We didn’t expect to be that lucky again, but we were! The gods are definitely on our side for Welsh holidays.
We decided to leave the motorbikes at home this year and take the car. The plan was for a nice, relaxing week away, and that is pretty much what we had.
I did, however, once again take a gazillion photographs.
It is going to take me ages to sort through them, so I have decided to post them as I go. Today’s instalment features our trip around Elan Valley.
This was actually just a detour on our way in as we had some time to kill.
We visited Elan Valley on the bikes back in September, and took quite a few pictures then. We thought we would therefore just take a quick drive through; no real need to stop too much as we’d seen it all before. It didn’t quite work out like that.
Elan Valley is simply stunning – it is impossible not to take pictures.
The weather was dry with a mixture of bright cloud and sunny spells. There was a strong, bitingly cold wind, which whipped up the waters into waves which crashed impressively against the austere dam walls.
Comparing my pictures with those from last September, it is interesting to see that the previous lush greens have been replaced by warm, almost autumnal colours.
We enjoyed a couple of hours driving around the dams, including an inevitable stop for tea and cake at the visitor centre. A great start to the holiday.
