Spider Hunting

Apparently, when some people go to Spain they sit on a beach. Not us, we go out looking for these.

We go to Spain occasionally to visit my wife’s relatives, Andy and Jan. Andy especially is not a beach person. He is something of an explorer, so a great person to be your guide for a week if you want to do something out of the ordinary. He just happened to know a good place to go looking for tarantulas, so, despite my wife’s inappropriate footwear (who wears flip flops to go tarantula hunting?), it seemed rude not to.

This is actually a wolf spider (Lycosa Tarentula), and it’s not really as big as you might imagine from this picture. I still wouldn’t want to find one in my bath though.
